About La Villa Pizzeria

Preparing Italian Cuisine By Hand For Over 38 Years

A Brooklyn Family Tradition Since 1955

The story of La Villa begins long before we opened our doors in 1982. Our family’s roots in the pizzeria business stretch back to 1955, when we first opened on 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge. Over the following decades, we grew steadily across Brooklyn, adding locations and even an Italian Ices shop in 1960. By the late 60’s, our family’s passion for authentic Italian cuisine had spread to Long Beach, Long Island as well.

It was that same passion, passed down through generations and built on years of hard work, that led us to open La Villa in the Lindenwood section of Howard Beach in the spring of 1982. We started small, just 25 to 30 seats, but the love for what we were making filled every inch of the place and it was standing room only from the start. Over the years, long hours and dedication turned that little pizzeria into something truly special, and recent renovations have expanded our seating to over 100, with outdoor garden seating and two large wood-fired pizza ovens.

Growing La Villa Pizzeria in Brooklyn

By 1990, we had built a strong foundation in Howard Beach and felt ready to grow. In 1992, we opened our second location on Avenue U in Mill Basin, Brooklyn. It did not take long for that location to outgrow itself either, and we soon expanded into a larger neighboring space. Along the way, we were fortunate to bring dedicated and passionate people into our family of workers, some of whom grew into management roles and eventually into partnerships that continue to this day.

Expanding to Serve More Brooklyn Neighborhoods

In the early 2000’s, with two thriving locations, we began looking for a third. We kept our focus on Brooklyn, and when we found the spot that would become our Park Slope location, it felt immediately right. It turned out to be no coincidence. This was the very neighborhood our family had lived and shopped in during the 60’s and early 70’s, home to beloved local butchers and storied pork stores that had been serving the community since 1947. Opening there on Memorial Day 2003 felt like a homecoming, and receiving the blessing of the older generation of our family who had started it all on 5th Avenue nearly 50 years earlier made it even more meaningful.

Through it all, what has never changed is our commitment to doing things the right way, by hand, with care, and with the same love for Italian cooking that our family has carried for over 70 years.
